78. Birch Vale and Hayfield peak district walk

78. Birch Vale and Hayfield. 9th October 2014.

Parking on the road in Birchvale just near the bridge over the river Sett we headed north east up the Penine Bridleway to the high viewpoints of Lantern pike. Southeast to skirt Heywood then down the hill to Primrose Lane and Slack Lane cutting across the field to The Lantern Pike for some drinks and a wonder at the Coronation Street memorabilia filling the pub. Back across the field to Slack Lane and then taking a path south onto Bankvale Road and left onto Swallowhouse Lane, under the bypass turning right down Market Street to Hayfield centre and the Packhorse sinking our drinks whilst also sinking into the sumptuous furniture ( which was 50% off in the sale). After feeding half of our sandwiches to the ducks by the bridge we set off down the side of the church across the bypass and then picked up The Sett Valley Trail in the car park and a nice easy stroll back to Birchvale.
