73. Shatton and Hope valley peak district walk

73. Shatton and Hope valley 27th August 2014.

Parking in the Garden centre we headed across the main road taking the bridge through Shatton staying on Shatton lane around Shatton Edge then turning right at Wolfs Pit following the lane around the hill then turning northwest across fields by a wall and into Bradwell via Edge Lane then new road then the hills right down Church Street and The Shoulder of Mutton. We were wary going in as there was a large funeral party in there but the landlady was very kind and we enjoyed pint and a sherry in the beer garden out of the way. Carrying north along the main street then veering off left down Town Lane then left, slightly right and voila! Ye Olde Bowling Green for a pint of Hobgoblin and a cool rasberry and apple j2O. Back down the to the triangular grass heading northeast on Gore Lane. Then along the long straight roman road that is Batham Gate which then winds through Brough to The Travellers Rest where we sat in the extensive gardens for some JD and a long cool drink. Back down the B6045 to a path on the left just before the bridge down by the river over a bridge then easterly across fields to join Townfield Lane veering off up some steps and a stile across fields to a lane then back onto Shatton Lane across the main road and back to the garden centre.
